Séminaire « Artefacts numériques et matérialités » – Nice, 9 septembre 2016
Sa présentation intitulée «Object and Relation –Ontology(ontologies) in Light of the Notion of Digital» s’orientera sur la base de son ouvrage tout récemment publié: On the Existence of Digital Objects (University of Minnesota Press, 2016 , https://www.upress.umn.edu/book-division/books/on-the-existence-of-digital-objects ).
Le résumé est le suivant:
« I will center the talk around my recent book On the Existence of Digital Objects (Press of Minnesota University, 2016), in which I propose to decompose the concept of object into relations in light of the recent development in digital technologies, especially data processing. Digital objects are the new industrial artifacts that pervade in our everyday life, either online or offline. In this talk, I will argue that 1) digital object demands a new ontology, which distinguishes itself from that of natural objects (that which has been explored in terms of subject or/and substance) and technical objects (that which we can find in the work of Heidegger and Simondon), this ontology is fundamentally relational and material; and 2) I will elaborate on relation as a concept beyond the opposition of syntactic and semantic, and proposes to understand the genesis of digital objects from the perspective of the materiality of relations. »
